There is something very spiritual for me about being in a press box and being the public address announcer for a football game. It is like the universe telling me this is your calling to bring joy to others through the use of your God\u00a0given gift of an announcer voice. From the moment I walk into a stadium until the time I leave I feel a sense of joy come over my body and a feeling of gratitude in my mind, and my soul is nourished with the knowledge that my efforts are making others happy.\u00a0 As I left the field today (8\/25\/12) as the Lauderhill Broncos Games were cancelled due to tropical storm Issac I looked to the heavens and asked God for guidance and he guided me right to A Starbucks and\u00a0 sent the message to write this blog. As I began to write the blog all that I needed started to appear in front of me through searches and I realized that the cancellation of The Lauderhill Broncos games was a blessing as God had other plans for me today.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Riley Nelson may not be a be a big name star but to those he served in Barcelona on a mission trip he is a hero. Riley Nelson is now a senior at BYU and I know I will be following him this season.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I choose BYU because of their honor code and the fact that many of their players do a mission trip of 2 years. I applaud any player that makes the commitment that BYU asks them to make as they are spreading their beliefs and helping others to come to a spiritual path by seeking salvation in the lord. \u00a0BYU’s mission statement is “To assist individuals in their quest for perfection and eternal life. That assistance should provide a period of intensive learning in a stimulating setting where a commitment to excellence is expected and the full realization of human potential is pursued.” While it is strongly encouraged that nineteen year-old Mormon men\u00a0 and 21 year old women serve a mission, it is not mandatory.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0This is Nortre Dame Stadium where this mosaic is often refered to as Touchdown Jesus. Think about it if you were a quarterback\u00a0 and could through a pass to Jesus how your life would change.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Before you begin to play the game you have to pick your players. Here is the starting offense and defense. The head coach would be GOD.<\/p>\n
OFFENSE:
\nQB – John as he was Jesus’s Right hand Man and Play Caller<\/p>\n
WR- Jesus for his great hands<\/p>\n
WR- Paul as he received the messages well<\/p>\n
TE- Matthew as he went from serving money to serving God<\/p>\n
RB- Timothy as he carried Paul’s Message<\/p>\n
FB- Job as he initially blocked Jesus but then came back to be a loyal servant<\/p>\n
C-\u00a0 Luke as he was a recorder and pointed out history<\/p>\n
RG- Jacob as he wrestled with God and came to further the message<\/p>\n
RT- Isaac as he stayed in Cannan his entire life and protected the land<\/p>\n
LG- Jonathan as he was s killer warrior<\/p>\n
LT-\u00a0 As he was a leader and protected God’s words<\/p>\n
DEFENSE:<\/p>\n
DE- Abraham as he was led by faith<\/p>\n
LT- Saul as his decision to find a suitable king protected Israel<\/p>\n
LG- Simon as he watrched over and protected Jesus<\/p>\n
NT- Peter for he called the signals for the other aopostles<\/p>\n
RG- Silas as he accompanied and assisted Paul<\/p>\n
RT- Ezra as he had God’s back by protecting the teachings of the temple<\/p>\n
MLB- Nehemiah as he was a rebuilder<\/p>\n
LOLB – Ezekiel for his outstanding vision<\/p>\n
ROLB- Daniel for his ability to anticpate what will occur<\/p>\n
CB- Malachi for his lessons of respect<\/p>\n
FS- David for his courage to be the one to fight and become the last line of defense<\/p>\n
After the team is selected the training begins and tat includes mediatation, sharing of strategies, commitment to help one another, and then creating a desire to win.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Tim Tebow is perhaps the most recognizable spiritual football player today and beyond his winning on the field he wins off the field by giving back to the community. In our spiritual football game we will be winning on an off the field as we continue to score touchdowns by shining our light on others while defending our beliefs against those who would do harm to others.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n Former NFL coach Tony Dungy is a deeply religious man who was appointed by former President George W. Bush to serve on the President’s Faith Council.<\/p>\n Dungy doesn’t often speak publicly on religion, but rather takes public positions on certain issues and steps in to mentor troubled NFL players.<\/p>\n Retired cornerback Deion Sanders was one of the biggest superstar athletes in the world during his career, but has stated he had nothing until he found God.<\/p>\n Sanders has discussed not wanting to sleep in his $10,000 bed, not wanting to come home to his 15,000 square-foot home, and not wanting to drive his collection of luxury cars, as his “Prime Time” persona left him feeling empty.<\/p>\n Today he finds meaning in mentoring troubled youth through programs such as those offered by the Boys & Girls Club of America<\/p>\n Retired football player\/wrestler Bill Goldberg is best known for his undefeated winning steak (174-1) in World Championship Wrestling and World Wrestling Entertainment.<\/p>\n Goldberg is Jewish and has said that he had a spiritual awakening later in his career, but even early on, he made his religious identity a cornerstone of his professional identify.<\/p>\n Today he is active in a number of charitable causes and is one of the leading advocates for animal welfare and a spokesman for for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.<\/p>\n Steve Young, Retired NFL<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Retired quarterback Steve Young is a well-known Mormon who attended Brigham Young University.<\/p>\n And Young isn’t just any<\/em> Mormon, he’s actually the great-great-great-grandson of the actual Brigham Young; the second President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.<\/p>\n That’s legit.<\/p>\n Young is also a humanitarian with his own charitable foundation, the Forever Young Foundation, which serves underprivileged children from all backgrounds and provides opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable to them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Retired NFL coach and NASCAR team owner Joe Gibbs and his wife Melissa are devout Christians.<\/p>\n Gibbs addressed the 2008 Republican National Convention and spoke on behalf of John McCain and Sarah Palin, insisting their election would lead to a “spiritual awakening” in the United States.<\/p>\n Although, after the speech he said that partisan politics felt a little “awkward” for him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Retired NFL quarterback Kurt Warner and his wife Brenda are devout evangelical Christians.<\/p>\n After winning the Super Bowl with the Rams and being named the game’s MVP, Warner famously thanked Jesus, his Lord and Savior, before answering any postgame questions.<\/p>\n Warner believes in faith healing and believes that God healed him from a serious concussion he suffered in 2000.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Reginald Howard “Reggie” White<\/strong> (December 19, 1961 \u2013 December 26, 2004) was an American college and professional football<\/a> player who was a defensive end<\/a> in the National Football League<\/a> (NFL) for fifteen seasons during the 1980s and 1990s.
